Literacy and Numeracy

VisionWest Training Centre transforms lives by assisting individuals to learn and lay foundations for the future.

The Foundation Literacy and Numeracy Programme consists of 100-200 hours of classroom study and is designed to enable individuals to be more successful in gaining employment, further studies and/or pursuing the life they want. This course does not contribute towards a National Certificate. It is an individualised self-paced programme that directly addresses student’s specific needs in:

  • Reading and Comprehension
  • Speaking and Listening
  • Writing
  • Spelling, Grammar, & Punctuation
  • Vocabulary
  • Numeracy

The programme also caters to ESOL students from Foundation Entry to Entry Level 2. The ESOL Programme has a strong oral literacy (speaking and listening) component and offers English grammar from Level 1 onwards. ILN courses are run by tutors who coordinate student programs and provide support with transition into further education and/or employment.

To enrol in ILN, students must be over 18 years, have low qualifications and lack literacy and/or numeracy credits at NCEA Level 1. For more information about class times and vacancies, please contact us.
