Training Centre

Following an initial interview, Allen found himself cultivating the gardens around the VisionWest campus on his very first day as a student in the Horticulture Course. This surprised Allen and he kept coming back because he so enjoyed the hands-on work. Allen began working towards his Horticulture Diploma straight away. He remembers his time in Training fondly and is particularly grateful for the way it brought him out of his personal isolation and gave him confidence to re-enter the workforce. He says it was very enjoyable spending time with the friendly tutors and students who gave him direction and inspiration. Tutors and other Trust staff who met Allen commented on what a lovely, gentle man he was and so when his training was nearing an end, work experience was found for him at a local retirement village, maintaining their gardens. Through Allen’s hard work, commitment and new found confidence he gained permanent paid employment at the village where residents often comment on his friendly smile. Allen is now off the benefit and enjoying his new lifestyle.
