One family was so appreciative of the way their children have been cared for at the Kindergarten that mum, Charlie, joined the Kindergarten committee. Charlie had only been in New Zealand for one year when she had her first daughter. She was a new mother who lacked confidence, and soon had another child. She felt that her daughter needed more stimulation than she was getting at home and also needed to socialise with other children. She had heard about VisionWest Christian Kindergarten from a playgroup, came along to visit and subsequently enrolled her child. Emily started Kindergarten when she was two years old and Charlie was apprehensive about how she would settle. Her concerns were soon put to rest as she quickly developed relationships with the teachers and other children. Emily was happy to attend kindy each day and came home full of stories about the activities she had enjoyed and new friends she had made.
Charlie found out about other VisionWest Community Services from the teachers and soon started participating in the Mainly Music group with both her girls.
She values the fact that the centre is not for profit and that it is evidently not all about the numbers. As a parent, she can see the teachers genuinely care about the children and she values the community feel and atmosphere within the centre. Juggling life with two children, the choice of days and session times has also made things easier for her.
